Welcome to the Agricultural Floodplain Management Alliance (AFMA) Website

Agricultural economies have a dramatic impact on the economy of the United States, and the local and state economies in the areas of the country with the most agriculture production rely on the viability and success of this robust industry. In these states, a significant portion of agricultural lands are being mapped within the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) regulated floodplain.

In order for these states to continue to sustain a strong agricultural economy, changes are needed to the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) that will promote the sustainability of agriculture in the floodplain. The proposed changes will promote prudent floodplain management principles and minimize the risk of increased urbanization of the floodplain.
